BECKY HOOPS charms and cracks up her audience with absurd characters and her mad hula hoop skills. She hoops in an unconventional, quirky fashion, using parody and humour to touch her public.
While she performs internationally, she is currently based in Montreal, Canada. She has a wide variety of performing experience; from cabarets, to under a big top, on the street, in festivals and in schools.
Becky never exactly set out to become a circus performer. Throughout her life, her desire to move and use her body creatively was undeniable but at the time she had no outlet for these urges.
After seeing her first contemporary circus show, she was more than captivated, she was absolutely hooked. She immediately moved to Montreal where she began training. It soon became clear to her that she also had a something to say on a stage. Living in Montreal in the era of massive circus loft parties, where creativity had no boundaries, allowed for the birth of many of her first shows and characters. She continues to be inspired by the frenzy and craziness of the Montreal circus community.
Eventually, after some exploration she discovered her love for hula hoops and naturally fell into clowning. She began performing on the street and always tried to push the boundaries of what could be done in this context. After some years of street performing she brought this same zest and zane to acts crafted for the stage.
She has spent many years since performing solo and duo on streets, in festivals, in theatres on stages and in dinner theatre and variety shows around the world. She has performed in more than 15 countries and with companies such as Cirque Eloize, GOP Variety, Just for Laughs, Melbourne Comedy Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Edmonton Fringe, Daidogei Street festival Japan, Christchurch World Buskers festival… to name a few.
